Engineering
Platform Engineer
Surfact · Oslo, Norway (hybrid) · Full-time
We make cargo talk. Why? Because a third of all food and pharma produce is wasted on the way to consumers, and we're out to change that. Our smart tracker Emma, made from recycled ocean plastic, travels with temperature-sensitive shipments for enterprise customers in food, pharma and seafood across 20+ countries. We're looking for a seasoned engineer to own the platform behind it, and to build it for ten times the fleet we run today.
What you'll do
- Own our Azure cloud platform end to end: architecture, ingestion, data, cost, and the calls about what we run and why.
- Push AI-assisted development further than most dare. Claude writes most of our code and a human owns every merge. You'll define how far that goes for production infrastructure, and build the guardrails.
- Scale ingestion and the data tier for a fast-growing fleet, without per-device cloud cost rising with it.
- Make reliability unremarkable: no reading silently lost, late and backfilled data handled gracefully, and monitoring that spots trouble before a customer does.
- Grow the data platform so questions about the fleet or a single shipment are answered in seconds, not filed as tickets.
Our stack
A cloud-native platform on Azure: event-driven IoT ingestion, serverless services, and both operational and analytical data stores. CI/CD carries much of what we ship, a human reviews every change, and turning more of our infrastructure into code is a job we want you to own. AI runs through development, operations and analysis, and we are leaning into what is now just possible. We're ISO 27001 certified and our customers are audited, so security shapes real engineering decisions. We'll go through the details with you in the interview.
What you bring
- Deep experience in building and operating production cloud infrastructure: Azure, or another major cloud and the appetite to go Azure-deep.
- Real conviction about AI-assisted development, with the judgement to know when to slow down and verify.
- A curious, fast-learning mind. Being a jack-of-all-trades is a real plus here.
- Fluency with infrastructure as code, CI/CD and observability.
- Strong Postgres and SQL, and sound instincts for modelling time-series data at volume.
Nice to have: IoT or telemetry at fleet scale, cellular (LTE-M, NB-IoT), ISO 27001/SOC 2 environments, Python, and cloud cost engineering.
What we offer
- Competitive salary, good pension, and share options. Own a piece of what you build.
- Flexible hours and location; a welcoming office at Kjelsås Stasjon with parking and good transit connections. Our team tends to spend about half their time at the HQ.
- Your choice of tools, plus best-in-class AI tools with generous quotas.
How to apply
Send your CV and a few lines about something you've built. A short, real note means more to us than a formal cover letter.
