Surfact teams up with Norwegian energy giant Hafslund and battery pioneers Kverneland Energi.
The green transition is gaining momentum in the construction industry, with increasing demands for electrification of equipment and machinery.
Now, Norway’s second-largest renewable energy company, Hafslund, has partnered with scaleup companies Surfact and Kverneland Energi to enhance sustainability and efficiency on Norwegian construction sites.
Currently, the construction sector accounts for around 5% of Norway’s greenhouse gas emissions. The government has set a goal to bring this figure down to zero.
Leveraging Norwegian-developed technology, Hafslund is taking a significant step toward facilitating the green shift in the industry. The energy company is making a major investment in mobile battery charging stations from Kverneland Energi, which will be equipped with Emma sensors from Surfact.
“The path to zero emissions requires collaboration and innovation,” says Sebastian Sandtorv, Head of Mobile Energy Solutions at Hafslund.
“Kverneland Energi’s charging solutions, combined with Surfact’s monitoring technology, make it easier to take critical steps toward more sustainable and efficient construction sites. This solution delivers high performance and efficient operations, making the transition to emission-free projects both simpler and smoother.”
In practice, the collaboration means that Hafslund will deploy Kverneland Energi’s mobile rapid chargers and battery trailers at its projects and worksites. These chargers come in various sizes and can power everything from smaller construction tools to trucks and excavators.
To ensure optimal equipment performance and maximize lifespan, each charging station will feature a sensor from Surfact, made from recycled ocean plastics. These sensors provide real-time data on location, temperature, and conditions. The technology ensures optimal performance for Kverneland Energi’s chargers, already renowned for their robustness and efficiency.
“Our original idea was aimed at the transport and logistics industry, which has immense needs for green innovation. However, this collaboration demonstrates that our technology can also help make other industries greener and more sustainable,” says Per Magne Helseth, founder and CEO of Surfact.
“We are proud and excited to join forces with Kverneland Energi and Hafslund in the fight for zero emissions on Norwegian construction sites.”
